Apple releases Xcode 15.2 with Vision Pro support

Apple has released Xcode 15.2, a significant update that sets the stage for the upcoming Vision Pro headset, which is scheduled to launch on February 2.

The new version of Xcode introduces support for the Vision Pro through the integration of the visionOS SDK, enabling developers to create immersive visionOS apps specifically designed for this advanced device.

With a focus on enhancing the visionOS experience, Apple’s release notes for Xcode 15.2 highlight various fixes and improvements to ensure seamless compatibility with the Vision Pro headset.

The Apple Vision Pro App Store is now open for submissions, allowing developers to present their visionOS applications.

Many existing iPhone and iPad apps will work seamlessly on the Vision Pro; however, developers are encouraged to optimize their apps for the best performance on this innovative device.

Apple plans to automatically publish compatible iPhone and iPad apps to the Vision Pro store, ensuring that its first spatial computing headset launches with a substantial library of applications. Developers can choose to opt out of this automatic publication via App Store Connect.

For developers looking for detailed guidance, Apple has provided extensive recommendations and requirements on a dedicated page on the Apple Developer website. This includes information on app testing, preparing screenshots, creating icons, and essential details about app naming and descriptions.

Notably, Apple advises developers against using terms like AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality), XR (extended reality), or MR (mixed reality) to describe visionOS apps. Instead, the company recommends referring to these applications as “spatial computing apps.”

The Vision Pro headset will debut on February 2 in retail stores across the US, priced at $3,499. Additionally, Zeiss prescription lenses will be available for $149.
